This blog post is one of my academic activities based on Structuralism and Literary Criticism by Gerard Genette.
In literary theory, structuralism is an approach to analyzing the narrative material by examining the underlying invariant structure. For example, a literary critic applying a structuralist literary theory might say that the authors of West Side Story did not write anything "really" new, because their work has the same structure as Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. In both texts a girl and a boy fall in love and conflict is resolved by their death.
By applying this theory I tried to analyse some typical T.V serials which has same structure of story. For example typical "Saas Bahu" serials like,
1) Saath Nibhana Saathiya: 2) Mere Angane me :
3) Kuch Rang Pyaar ke Esebhi
So in this type of daily sops story has same structure. Love at first sight and than the mother of hero and the father of heroine has problem with this. Than hero and heroine get married and than the mother in law has problem with heroine and than fighting goes on. We can find this type on typical stories in Indian Television.
Another examples are like, Crime Patrol and Saavdhan India
.
In both Crime T.V series we find same concept or we can say same story Structure. First crime attempt and than police investigation starts and than they show whole things from start to end explain in flash back technique. And here we also find one other similar thing that in both series crime was done by own family members or Friends, Lover.
